bottom class Open-Circuit Diving

The basic form of SCUBA (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) where the diver breaths in from a tank strapped to the body and exhales out into the water column. A skin/snorkel diver is limited in how long and how deep he can dive with one breath. The SCUBA diver carries his breathing air with him allowing deeper and longer bottom times.

This comes with its own set of safety hazards which training and certification aim to address. Training at this level includes basic air, increased oxygen percentage (Nitrox), and adding helium (Trimix). With an open-circuit SCUBA certification, you gain access to commercial gas blending/refill providers, rental of equipment when travelling, and group diving opportunities.
SCUBA diver
Wakulla Diving Center conducts Open-Circuit SCUBA training on an as-requested schedule with a minimum class size of six students. Please see if there is a class you can join by selecting the 'Schedule' menu choice above. If not, then click on the 'Request' menu choice to set up a class or request being added to the wait list.

The average course involves several days of lectures, pool sessions, and open water shallow to deep dives. This does not include lodging, meals, transportation, nor air-fills. WDC has negotiated some local lodging discounts and there is free RV parking and tent camping behind the Diving Center for those so inclined.
